How Survivors Of Abortion began.The ministry to abortion survivors began in Australia in 1986 though the organization Survivors of Abortion didn't start until a few years later. It was begun by one woman who'd had an abortion some 16 years before.Buried in her subconscious it led to her being unable to be the mother to her children that they needed. The return of memory of that abortion was very confronting, frightening. She felt overwhelmed, very afraid, and sought help to face what had happened in that abortion;the loss she had sufferered, and the effects it had had on her and her children. God's mercy, forgiveness, healing and peace were there for her. His love enabled her to face the facts, the reality, of the abortion...to let herself remember the steps that led to the procedure itself, and what it had meant. She could acknowledge the child she had forgotten, allow herself to grieve his loss and 'let go' with the certainty that one day they would meet. She was able to forgive those who needed her forgiveness,because she discovered that Jesus'death on the cross really was sufficient - even for an abortion.And she was able to begin to truly love her children for the first time. As she began to heal, she recognized she was not alone. Surely there were others 'out there' also hiding their pain - or not recognizing it, living lives that were, in effect, coping mechanisms. God began to speak to her.He spoke to her about His deep and enduring love for her, and for every other woman who was suffering. Later He expanded her understanding - it was not only women after all - and she realised that the same mercy and love God had extended to her in Christ, was available to all.Over 20 years the stories of many hundreds have been heard by phone or in person. Hundreds more when we went online. To everyone who would share their heart's cry, their pain, we would listen - with understanding, love, and compassion. Always
there has been a readiness to share with those who were
willing,
the truth that God sent His Son to die on the Cross for our sins, ALL
our sins, because of His unchanging love for each and every
human
being. That God wants a relationship with us, not from a-far off but a
close and personal family relationship where He is our Father and each
of us his daughter or son. |
